What does it mean when certain folk are hypercritical? Well, either you’re doing something wrong and need correcting; or they are not going to let you be a normal, fallible human being. Now, if you don’t have time and have to beat the clock then you have a friend or fiend who will be your task master. Lucky you.
Some people see only the good in themselves and see only bad in others. They see the flaws of others a mile away but can’t see the ugliness that they do. Everyone else sees their ugly habits or low character but they sure as heck don’t. But they can see yours.
These people have the limited value of the lightening that illuminates the silhouette of the elephant in a pitch black room. Maybe you didn’t want to know X but there it is. Now deal with it. And if you can deal with that you can solve how to keep your boundaries firm when living with or in close proximity with hypercritical persons. Feel free to tell them the truth about themselves in a diplomatic way. And please remember that good, friendly fences make good neighbors.

Another New Year
The end is near. The end is here. This is the end of time and the beginning of time. New years are for change, and if you’re of a mind, evolution. How will I become myself, my better or best self? What steps do I take to free myself, my family or my people? Einstein once said that doing the same thing but expecting different results is insanity. Sanity is our goal. But with the past, the negative or positive past, nipping at our heels: how do we move forward successfully?
We possess negative and positive family and personal traditions that move us forward or hold us back. We have real and false responsibilities sucking wrongly or rightfully at our energy. Will we nurture our goals or will we be further drained of our precious lifetime and have our youthfulness diminished for another year?
During the American slavery era, enslaved AfriKans would run for their lives usually around Christmas time. If they made it they celebrated the New Year as free people.
A new year can begin anytime. Birthdays, anniversaries, daybreak, with a death or a birth…time can stop and you’ll need to begin again anew. You can flip the script. Write a new chapter of your life. The past, present and future are one phenomenon so if you change the present, you change your relationship to past and future. Your ancestors (the ones who were good) only want good for you. Their lives were spent lifting us out of machinations and evil, and they schooled us on avoiding the tricks and traps of life. They want us to live fully and make life worthwhile for every generation springing forth and unfolding just as we were once upon a time. The earth wants you to save your life so you can save her’s. She nurtures us so that we can nurture her. Cast your fate to the wind. Write a bold new manifesto…now manifest.
When My Children Were Kids
When my children were kids I’d tell them that there was a three fold responsibility for their success: their parents, their community and themselves. When we grow up, I think there is still that breakdown of who is responsible for the individual. But what is that breakdown? When we grow up it reverses to be: the individual, family and friends, the community and the larger society. Or for some it’s individual, family/friends/community then the larger society.
For an individual, family/friends, community and larger society that would equate to the individuals place within the family, etc. and the power and influence of that person in all these places and the power these realms have over or upon the individual. What is going on? This is: in these realms of influence in your life is exerted certain support or controls. The influence or power goes from the individual and from all the different spheres. It’s supposed to be two way and equal but imbalances in power exist because of evolutionary deficits and disease factors. Any ism will create an imbalance of power or responsibility. Ideally, the individual is supported by family and friends, community and larger society and the individual can contribute to their system with their positive agency. But with the contamination of isms, the system may take more from the individual and stunt the individual, or certain individual(s) might contaminate the system with a virulent psychopathy. The psychopathy and stunting could create or devolve into a negative feedback loop that confuse generations of potentially healthy individuals or damage positive/healthy systems functions or possibilities.
For some people, those that are minorities, the system that should work for them is the individual, family/friends/community, then the larger society. Since integration and the free and open society is being persistently sabotaged by the larger society, what becomes more important is for the individual and the family/friends/community to become closer and more unified and supportive and contributing of each other. Also, active appreciation and practice of one’s culture or it’s revival would be healthier and more evolutionary for the sanity of the cultural system. Being in synch with nature, supporting and studying nature, reviving and healing nature and allowing nature to heal oneself is also an optimal supportive practice and condition. Nature is actually the larger system. The larger society can be a society willing or unwilling to interact positively with world cultures and nature. The larger society can be healthy or not. The relationship between these different actors is of importance. They can be healthy and embrace change and evolution. Or they can constrict and sink into depravity.
Being balkanized or in a siege state by an adversarial larger society can be corrosive. People who find themselves in barrios, slums or ghettoes can be reactively desperate and alienated from each other. Ghettos can be neighborhoods, nations or whole continents. There was a song called “The World is a Ghetto”. And the world is indeed becoming a ghetto for all who are not the 1%. An individual can feel isolated, lied against, trapped in their own skin and marked for suffering and death. How ‘minorities’ react or respond to their imposed condition plus their persistence determines their outcomes. During American segregation many black communities were bustling and prosperous until they were burned down by the larger community or declared areas for urban renewal and bulldozed. Farmers were lynched in one fashion or another (by kkk, lack of bank or government loans or bad faith seed companies). Individuals were also robbed of their just due wages, fees, compensation or reparations. I can only guess that the goal of the larger society is to commit slow genocide against “others”not knowing that that is the goal of the 1% for them.
In human nature, the most important bonds for an infant are it’s parents and nature. Mother Nature in the 21st century is in the bull’s eye of the larger society. Brazil’s newly elected government’s goal is to finish off the Amazon, the indigenous people and Quilombos. This will make way for more beef and gmo agribusiness. Certain of the larger society have deemed nature and diversity unnecessary. But in nature, diversity is necessary for the survival and evolution of the human species and every species.
A person born in this world finds themselves surrounded or not surrounded by family/friends, community and/then the larger society and either find themselves supported, besieged or predated upon by their own community and/then the larger society. The natural environment and resources are shrinking and many find themselves isolated from their right to connection to the natural world and to other individuals (humanity). Most people naturally want love and health. Yet some people actually don’t want it for themselves or anyone else. These are psychopaths. They are a danger to themselves and others. They want to remake the world into their own hoarded paradise or wreak it to reflect their inner soulless world. These diseased individuals use, control, exploit, degrade, destroy and discard. In all that they do they cultivate an anti-culture of psychopathy, sociopathy and other forms of dysfunction, unnaturalness and brokenness. They lie with words and silence to compromise reality for their own gain and security.
When you are in a kidnapping never let them move you from where the attack is taking place. Always take a stand and fight to defend all that you are and live for. We are the last generation that can correct global climate change. If we let certain folk kidnap our future then there won’t be one. The fight is to engage in the struggle for social justice, human rights and saving nature. I’ve just learned that scientist are currently saying that the earth can only sustain us as we are for 12/twelve more years. This narcissistic way of living can’t go on. The ecosystem will collapse. Are you going to allow a psychopath to take you from the only life we’ve ever known without a fight???
The First Bonds of Human Infancy
The first three bonds of human infancy are mother, father and nature. Or that is as it used to be. These days we have Nature Deficit Disorder, a modern illness brought about by our environment being made unsafe for us and our children to roam via psychopathic and pedophilic conditions in the society we live in. Other reasons are pollution and racism-classism. Pollution renders what’s under our feet out of reach through toxicity, degradation, concrete/asphalt and isolating distance.
Our bonds are meant to be mutually beneficial. With our parent, they care for us when we’re young and helpless. And when our parents are old, we care for them because we are strong and they must depend on our strength. The earth is always here for us. We get the support we need to live from earth’s bounty. All that earth requires of us is stewardship…active appreciation and care.
It is a shame what goes on these days. These are days of demons and hell. Hell is a place where people have short arms and long spoons. The people will only eat if they feed each other so it is hell. Everyone is hungry and angry. In heaven, people have short arms and long spoons too. But in heaven, everyone makes sure to feed one another. The conditions are the same but the choices are different. And that is our problem. The devils assuming control on earth and of humanity only want for themselves. They enforce their take, take, take greed.
There are limits to what avariciousness and goons can do. Volcanoes can be mined for diamonds, earthquake fault lines can be fracked for oil and workers can only be used up for so long. Those are thing that can’t go on forever… the limit will be reached. There is a line that can’t be crossed. There is a tipping point.
There comes a time when the earth says no. The time comes when the situation cascades into a very large grave. The grace of growing up or growing old will be over. Humanity has a choice now in whether we will be in hell or heaven here on earth. What is your choice?
It’s Sometimes Hard to Get Things Done Alone
It’s sometimes hard to get things done alone. The saying goes that if you want to get somewhere fast, go alone; and if you want to go far, go together. For assurance of survival and thriving, go together. For reality checking along the way…two heads are better than one.
Throughout history, humanity has looked to leaders to know what to do to achieve stability or change. A king or a revolutionary would give orders or instruct the people on best practices for best outcomes. From the best way to keep from losing one’s head to the best way to bring down a despot, leadership could be relied upon to do the best thinking…or that’s what was hoped.
In the twentieth century, we’ve lost leaders like Ida B. Wells, Gandhi, Einstein, Martin Luther King and Imamu Malik Shabazz. When evolutionary people like these die or are assassinated, the people who follow them founder, their struggle for improved lives derail. Divide and conquer comes into effect as the ‘head’ has been divided from the ‘body’.
If all people were taught how to be leaders, learned how to think as leaders, the evolution of the species could make more consistent progress. People, or humanity, have been divided from knowledge and education in many ways, and forever. Folk have never had much time to think given the pressures of every type of slavery in effect since the beginning of human society. If we simply had the time to think about our lives, our values, ethical questions, science, art, mathematics…if only we had the time to think. What we do find time to think about are the death squads, doing our jobs, and the basic requirements for living like shelter, food, sex, and safety.
Divide and conquer separates us from everything real. We’re divided from health, sanity, love, safety, earth, clean air, authentic relationships, reality and prosperity. We are divided from freedom, honor and our humanity. We have trouble thinking clearly then the death squad assassinates our leaders that do think clearly and provide us some direction.
The both/and of this situation is this: MLK and Malcolm X are the left and right hand of liberation. Thought, words and deeds are part of a liberation process… right minded thought, words and deeds. Right minded people produce right results. Education, the right education, is key to sustained, generational, pro-social results.
Sadiman, of the village of Dali in Java Indonesia, restored the Gendol Forest by himself by trading clove seeds for banyan trees then planting them to remediate burned land further damaged by the resulting droughts and floods. He has been planting banyan trees for 21 years. People thought he was crazy. Some folk vandalized his work but he continued planting to restore the water table. Sadiman’s 68 years old now and still at work. The land is restored, and the people of his village, his country and the world have the benefit of his activism and example. Sometimes, the only way to get things done is alone because folk need time and education to catch up to the trailblazers.
Sometimes, everyone must act, correct situations and evolve as we go. Sometimes we have to lift others as we climb. Unity is a necessity for some of our human evolution. The early union movements and the civil rights/human rights movements are examples of this. The progress won’t happen if we don’t do it together.
There is no one way to enact positive change. There are wrong ways and evil ways to be avoided to be sure. Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.” There are 7.6billion people on this planet so I’m sure there are many variations of the right thing to do. Manifesting all the right solutions is possible.
“This is America”
opens with African music being played by an African musician who is executed gangland style by Jim Crow. Jim Crow is a stereotype of African culture that taints African representation in media. The historic persona of Jim Crow was an invention of a burnt cork, black-face wearing white actor. His name was Thomas Dartmouth Rice and in 1828 made mockery of black people, music, dance and speech to feed his career as a Minstrel stage performer.
Donald Glover is acting out the role of a white blackface character symbolic of the music industry in this music video and it’s destructive effect on black culture. From African folk music to gospel to soul and pop (Michael Jackson dance style on top of the car after James Brown styled vocal shout out “ Hit me!”) all are targeted for obliteration by a music industry that wears our skin to commit it’s terror and genocide.
The lyrics towards the end references gangster rap saying “You just a big dawg, yeah; I kenneled him in the backyard; that probably ain’t life for a dog; for a big dog.” Rap is the music industry’s attack dog. It was used to obliterate conscious rap in the 1990s. Gangster rap is used to demean black women. This divides black men and women against each other. Gangster rap popularized the reemergence of the word nigger as a form of black mis-identity. This divides the African within, mind and soul. The stereotype enslaves rather than liberates leaving us as animals chained in the enslaver’s yard.
“This is America; Don’t catch you slipping up; look what I’m whipping up”. We Africans became comfortable with the free and open society that was hard fought for by our ancestors and elders. White supremacy is pushing back more as they have not accepted being prosocial in a free and open society, They want to depraved and oppress…that’s what they’re whipping up.
The gospel choir sings “Grandma told me, get your money, Black man”. If you can make this system work in your favor go for it. There are black folk who make it and do so without incurring negative attention from the powers that be. When you successfully work the system you can’t attract negative attention or behave like Trump. Trump will get away with perversion and rape. Cosby will not. Police, IRS, the media and other agencies are not the friends of rich black folk either. You won’t be able to buy your way into white privilege or out of the Black condition.
Africans are the great grand parent of humanity. We are called animals but that is a projection of white supremacy’s cultural genocide. All the stereotypes heaped onto blacks are the vicious hallucinations of a sick twisted white society. The Jim Crow persona is being chased by a lynch mob. The stereotype has kicked in and white society physically attacks real black people that accepted the stereotype or who have this nightmare projected upon them. In our day and age, there are many black lackeys/Judas goats of the white supremacist system. African people in politics, media, or ‘leaders’ who sell ‘us’ out are just as vulnerable to lynching as the rest of us. A big dog?? When will this world be allowed to be sane??
“This is America”
My take on “This is America” is that it is about the white music industry and their acts of historically generating black stereotypes by white and black blackface minstrels on up to the present perversion of rap music via gangster rap to smear us with what they think of us. This stereotype is a killing joke played out in our communities via our killing each other (self hate) and whites killing us with their lynch mobs and police (cold hate).
Town Hall Meetings
One of the best ways to bring people together democratically is with town hall meetings. It is the initial first steps to meeting fellow citizens, community leaders, and reaching a meeting of the minds. It is one of the first stepping stones of change.
Town hall meetings are a healing process for humans and our commons. Earth is the commons now-a-days… it is a small world. The people of the earth are communities. The earth is home for all human communities. Town hall meetings are an antidote for the schisms of divide and conquer; and it’s the cure for the anomie settling into human consciousness due to our resignation to corporate enslavement of the world and people. Accepting responsibility for reality, the commons, humanity, our villages, nations, the world and our soul is the initial step in healing ourselves. Stewardship begins within the environment of town hall democracy. Town hall opens up processes of communication, learning and problem solving necessary to win-win, create consensus and evolve.
Being a human being is being a member of a family. Humanity has been or is a primitive, developing and dysfunctional family…in that order. Our best outcome will be from taking the responsibility for shaping the successful future of our large family while expanding all possibilities for evolutionary diversity and survival-thriving. The town hall meeting serves the function of a family meeting. Planning and implementing, strategizing change, assessing situations, and responding to the affairs of commons. We expand the commons democracy as a choice for human survival. Be a human being or die. It’s come down to that. Every wrong social, ethical and economic decision pushes us to the edge of a life or death choice as a people. Having a place where we can make important community decisions and reach a consensus of direction(s) and balance with peace at its core is the goal.
Town halls are supportive of healthy community development.
It, grass roots democracy, inoculates communities against slavery and destabilization (aka economic traps and tricks). We regain the proactive powers of yes, no and connection. We put ourselves in control of designing our quality of life. We are able to move forward. Town hall is a form of karma yoga where we, through unselfish action, can create solutions for ourselves and our seven generations.
Physician Heal Thyself
I have felt for some time that I have no business helping anyone until I help myself. As a woman, I tend to everyone else before I think of my own needs. It’s a bad ole tradition that saps the life out of my creativity and steals time and energy. This problem presents within it the solution of forcing me to look at my condition and my requirements and to follow through in applying the remedies. If I put my energy into washing the dishes, cooking or gardening…yes, it improves my families’ lives but it’s a patch, a band aid, that won’t solve the fundamental problem or heal the spreading wound.
I know I was born for a certain purpose. And I know what that purpose is. Because of the usual ‘isms’ I’m held back, thwarted and sabotaged. And yet, like a rat in a maze, I must pursue freedom, justice and triumph. The world is mine too. I have a right and obligation to heal and be a wounded healer. I can increase health for goodness sake.
When I change everything changes in relationship. Each individual has an effect on everyone around them and everything. When we improve our thinking, words and deeds our position is enhanced. The National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs motto was “Lifting as we climb.” That is a human responsibility…one that must be accepted. When we hold ourselves back or when other folk are held back, humanity loses evolutionary ground. When we lift ourselves we lift whole situations.
We live in a time when liberation is the only true work. Mental, physical and spiritual liberation will heal this world. Truth is all that’s left to live for in the service of love. Freud defines mental health as the ability to love and work. People have to have the freedom to pursue meaningful work and relationships without interference or machinations. The cure is within us or is us. Having the courage to manifest from this core truth will liberate the world.
Iatrogenic Disease
I finally know what’s undermining my health. I have been suffering under an iatrogenic illness since last fall of 2017. For some odd reason I had to change my blood pressure medication. I don’t know why…a drug shortage or my coverage wouldn’t allow my continued use. Well, the Nurse Practitioner asked me if I was allergic to Lotensin and I said that my cardiologist said that I shouldn’t take it because it causes coughing. So Nurse prescribed me Benazepril.
My partner and I had to take an emergency trip to New York for family. So I was not focused on my own health but that of a family member. The coughing began gradually and increased to the point that most folk began treating me as if I had pneumonia or TB. Some folk were pretty mean about it. I’m black so the stereotype is that I’m dirty or diseased to begin with. I was a trooper, I kept my focus on helping my family.
So from October 2017 until yesterday well, day before yesterday 03/19/18 I was subject to the poison that is Lotensin. I thought I was exposed to coal dust and diesel fumes from the Amtrak train; or NYC pollution; or smoke from the Tubbs Fire. The Nurse thought I had sinusitis. I was given a 10 day course of antibiotics. When I finished it I had a case of hives. A month later, I showed up at the doctor’s office with a swollen tongue and nose. I was beginning to look like W.C. Fields. Or I thought so. I was late for the drop in appointment so no one would see me. I did tell them about the swelling but no one cared. I went home and mega-dosed on vitamin C and D3. I called an advise nurse who told me to go back to the doctor’s office so I did. The Nurse ordered test. I took the test… In any case, I’ve been getting the run around.
I started campaigning to get another medication because I finally figured out that Benazepril was Lotensin. I really feel the office was making me into a killing joke. Angioderma can be fatal if not treated. I’ve read that the swelling can become infected. I felt difficulty breathing so I mega-dosed on vitamins for relief. My observations on my contact, as a black woman, with the health care system is this: 1) I’m seen as a superwoman who can take all suffering and pain then get back to work 2) I’m seen as a hysterical liar 3)Nothing I say is worth listening to because I’m childish and inferior.
Well, I got my med changed. I called the pharmacist and asked what would be best then called the Nurse to request the change. It took over a week to get the new prescription…with too many calls from me for them to follow through. Arrgh.
I have learned that some ACE inhibitors are made with snake venom. ACE inhibitors cause coughing and secretions in the lungs and sinus. I found these secretions overwhelming. The secretions were coming out of all my orifices in many ways…coughs, vomit, diarrhea. Woe.
I guess the moral to all of this is that we must share our experiences to learn; stand up to iatrogenic dealing doctors/nurses; and Google as much as possible to aid in our self care. Good night and God bless.
